Man, 11-year-old son robbed at gunpoint while jogging in Auburn, police say

AUBURN, Wash. — Officers with the Auburn Police Department are searching for the suspect in a recent armed robbery.

Police said a 39-year-old man was out on a jog with his 11-year-old son around 8:30 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of O Street NE in Auburn when a man approached him and asked for his wallet.

Surveillance video from the victim's house showed the suspect following the family.

The father, Esteban Hernandez,  told KIRO 7 when man pulled a gun on him and he told the robber he had no cash, the robber pointed the gun at his son's chest.

Hernandez said he gave the man the only thing he had -- his cellphone.  The robber then got into the passenger seat of a white Impala and fled the scene, Hernandez said.

"I'm afraid, you know, that something bad will happen in the future because I'm pretty sure he's going to do it again to somebody else," said Hernandez. "They don't care, they don't respect life. They don't even respect an 11-year-old kid. That's all they want ... is money."

Police described the suspect as a black man in his 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds and with short, braided hair.  He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

Police released a photo from surveillance video of what Hernandez said is a white Impala in which the suspect fled.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Auburn Police Department.
