Man in custody after assault, theft in International District

SEATTLE — Seattle police arrested a man suspected of assaulting and robbing a 44-year-old man Sunday morning in the International District.

Police said the attack happened about 8:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Fifth Avenue South.

When officers arrived, they saw the suspect running down the street and were able to track him down a few blocks away, taking the 50-year-old into custody, police said.

The victim told officers that an unknown man assaulted him and stole his cellphone, officials said.

Medics at the scene treated the victim and took him to Harborview Medical Center for additional treatment.

The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail.

Detectives are investigating.
