A man is dead after being hit by a train Thursday afternoon in the Napavine/Winlock area, according to BNSF Railways spokesman Gus Melonas.
Police said an Amtrak train hit the man about 4:30 p.m. at the Washington Street public crossing.
Police said the initial information is that when the train neared the crossing, two men tried to cross the tracks. One made it across, but the other was hit by the train.
The crossing arms were down and the crossing lights were on during the incident.
The train stopped and the victim’s body was found.
This is the second fatality involving a pedestrian in 2020, Melonas said.
Last year there were 20 people killed on train tracks in Washington.
