TACOMA, Wash. — Police found the body of a man after an exchange of gunfire between an SUV and a sedan led to a crash in Tacoma Thursday.
Around 1:30 a.m., Tacoma officers were called to reports of shots fired in the 3800 block of South Lawrence Street. Officers arrived and found glass and shell casings in the street.
Witnesses said a sedan and a white SUV had raced away southbound after gunfire was exchanged.
Officers searched the area for victims and checked local hospitals, but none were found.
About 3 a.m., a passerby reported a possible crash in the 3600 block of South Lawrence where a white Ford Explorer appeared to have hit a semi-truck. Officers found a dead man in the driver’s seat of the SUV, which hit the back of an unoccupied semi. No one else was inside the Explorer.
Anyone who witnessed the shooting or crash, or has any other information about the crime is asked to call the Tacoma Police Department.
