Man barricaded in car causes I-5 to shut down in Kent

KENT, Wash. — King County deputies arrested a man who caused a standoff when he barricaded himself inside his car in Kent.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on southbound I-5 at SR 516. Washington State Patrol troopers had to shut down all southbound lanes because a man who has a warrant for felony domestic violence harassment had barricaded himself inside a car.

Traffic was diverted onto SR 516 while SWAT officers converged on the area and crisis negotiators tried to get the suspect to come out.

A few hours later, the man surrendered to deputies. No one was hurt.

The freeway reopened around 4:20 a.m.
