LYNNWOOD, Wash. — The Lynnwood Police Department recently launched a distracted driving and pedestrian/cyclist safety emphasis patrol.
The emphasis patrol on pedestrian and cyclist safety began on March 17 and ran through March 28.
Now, officers are conducting a distracted driving emphasis patrol through April 14 in the area of 196th Street Southwest and 36th Avenue West.
The emphasis patrol is in partnership with the Snohomish County Target Zero Task Force.
"In 2018, our officers responded to more than 1400 collisions in the City of Lynnwood. There were over 250 injuries resulting from these collisions. Forty-four pedestrians/cyclists were injured last year as the result of collisions and sadly, one pedestrian was also killed," Lynnwood police said in a news release.
Police said distracted driving and/or inattentiveness was determined to be the primary contributing factor in the majority of the collisions.
