TSA officers discovered a loaded firearm Tuesday in the carry-on bag of a traveler headed from Tri-Cities to Seattle.
This is the fifth firearm discovery this year.
The man was headed from Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco to Sea-Tac Airport in Seattle. A TSA agent spotted the firearm, a 9 mm Ruger LC9, loaded with six rounds of ammunition, on an X-ray at 8:35 a.m. during a routine screening.
Port of Pasco Police Department was notified, which then interviewed the traveler and confiscated the weapon. The man missed his flight and was allowed to rebook.
The recommended civil penalty for a firearm starts at $4,000 and can go up to $13,333 per violation.
