Police said he killed his roommates, Nicholas Olson, 25, and Summer Scheibel, 23. The three lived together with one other person inside their home on the 1200 block of Crowe Street SE.

“I stayed the night here Thursday night and I remember telling him that,” said Cory Thompson, a friend of the victims. “I said, ‘You guys are a couple of my favorite people.’ And then Monday morning they’re dead.”

Thompson said the news is still sinking his. He can’t believe his friends, Olson and Scheibel, are gone.

“It just really doesn’t make sense that something like this would happen to a girl so sweet and harmless and thoughtful. She had her whole life ahead of her,” said Reyes Constreras, a friend of the victims.

“People are going to want to say things like, ‘Oh, it was over drugs, or it was over this,’ and it wasn’t. I know the guy who shot them too,” said Thompson.

Neighbors said they heard the gunshots go off.

“I was just watching college football and then I heard a few semi-automatic rifle shots,” said Kobe Reed, a neighbor. “Then I see, like, so many firetrucks and ambulances show up and then police told me later there’s been a few fatalities over there, so I kind of got spooked a little bit.”

Lacey police said they’ve responded to calls at the home before. Despite that, Thompson said everyone who lived inside the home typically got along.

“It was a pretty happy household. Don’t get the picture that this was people who were in a tumultuous friendship, it wasn’t that at all, that’s why it’s so shocking,” he said.

Ochoa will be held without bail until his arraignment Dec. 4. The judge said he could face up to life in prison.
