SEATTLE — King County Executive Dow Constantine announced Thursday that 13,500 acres of farmland in King County will be preserved as part of his land conservative initiative.
With Pike Place Market supporting hundreds of farmers and generations of farming families, conserving the land is more important than ever.
King County officials said one of the main challenges for farmers is finding affordable farmland and with the county’s population growing by one million people since the early 1980s, it’s becoming increasingly more difficult.
The initiative doesn’t stop with Thursday’s announcement.
Constantine wants to preserve even more farmland for the future.
