King County Sheriff’s Office takes in hundreds of firearms during first gun buyback event

BURIEN, Wash. — The King County Sheriff’s Office took in hundreds of weapons on Saturday during its first-ever gun buyback event in Burien.

The KCSO said they received 287 firearms and about 10,000 rounds of ammunition and distributed over $36,000 in gift cards to community members.

“As your Sheriff, I am committed to doing everything I can to reduce gun violence in King County. The Gift Cards for Guns program is an important step in making our communities safer through a simple, voluntary process. I’m proud to support it,” said Sheriff Patti Cole-Tindall.

The firearms received were:

  • 11 AR-15/AK-47
  • 68 Pistols
  • 46 Revolvers
  • 70 Shotguns
  • 75 Rifles (not AR-15)
  • 8 Muzzle loading
  • 7 Antiques
  • 2 Other

The guns will be destroyed at a facility in Spokane.

“Thank you to everyone that participated in the event, and to @KCCouncil for making today happen,” the KCSO said in a tweet.

For anyone that missed the event, the KCSO said that they do accept unwanted guns at their offices but ask that people call ahead.
