King County to host the BECU Drive-in Movies at Marymoor Park

KING COUNTY, Wash. — An attraction for moviegoers is coming to Marymoor Park starting July 8.

King County will host the BECU Drive-in Movies at Marymoor Park for the summer. It will run from July 8 to Aug. 27, every Wednesday and Thursday.

Tickets for all of the July showings are sold out. It’s not clear when tickets for August showings will go on sale.

The summer series includes big-screen viewing, allowing customers to watch from their cars and practice safe distancing.

Food trucks will provide concessions.

“We are excited to offer drive-in movies and provide a fun and safe entertainment option for the summer,” said the event’s producer, Doug Borneman of Epic Events. “It’s been a tough spring for the world, and we are really looking forward to bringing back such a celebrated pastime. We need everyone to do their part to follow the rules so we can keep it safe and have an amazing summer.”

Officials with King County Parks said the outdoor movies usually bring in $6 million per year. While this year’s drive-in showings will help bring in some cash flow still, they anticipate losses of $5 million in 2020.

“This is something that helps a lot,” Jessica Emerson of King County Parks said. “But we look at this event not only about revenue, it’s also about providing entertainment, and something for our community, our King County community to do.”
