PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — An investigation is underway after a fight between roommates led to a shooting Saturday morning in the Peninsula Detachment area near Mason County, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies responded about 4:40 a.m. after a 911 caller said he had been shot at his home on East Victor Road.
The victim, 54, was taken from the house to the end of the road by other roommates, where deputies and medics met them, authorities said. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to law enforcement, the suspected shooter fled into the woods with a gun.
Deputies said during their search for the man, someone called 911, advising them that the suspect was in a trailer near 184th Avenue Northwest and 144th Street Northwest.
Deputies surrounded the trailer and then took the man into custody without incident.
The 26-year-old suspect told neighbors to call 911 so he could turn himself in, authorities said. He also led them back to the firearm, which they found in the woods.
Deputies said they reviewed surveillance video that showed a fight between the victim and suspect before the shooting.
After the suspect was questioned by investigators, he was booked into the Pierce County Jail for first-degree assault.
The shooting remains under investigation.
