I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass reopens after being closed by spinouts

I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass reopened after being closed in both directions by vehicle spinouts.

Not only were there spinouts on Sunday; chains broke off trucks, stopping and slowing traffic.

For those who tried to travel the pass, it was a perilous venture.

Many people driving a little east of North Bend were caught off guard as rain immediately turned to almost whiteout conditions.

Traffic was backed up for miles as heavy snow fell and icy conditions caused cars to move more slowly.

Drivers got out and chained up, as chains were required in both directions. However, some semitruck drivers were fined $500 for not having chains. Some drivers even slid backward while trying to climb the hill.

And many drivers were trying to get across the pass during halftime of the Super Bowl but got stuck.

Up to 9 inches of snow were expected to fall at the pass through the evening.
