Humane Society Tacoma-Pierce County in need of people to adopt dogs to make room for neglected pets

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — The Humane Society Tacoma-Pierce County is looking to find some pets a forever home as it looks to make space for arriving pets that were found in deplorable conditions.

According to a post from the Humane Society, eight dogs were found neglected and living outside in freezing conditions at a residence in Graham this week.

Animal control was called to remove the pets but when they arrived, they found two dogs dead.

When the remaining six dogs were brought to the Humane Society for treatment, another dog died as a result of the “horrific shape” it was in, officials said.

The veterinary team said the remaining five dogs were just skin and bones, dehydrated and covered in mats with dried fecal matter, and infested with fleas, leaving them on a long road to recovery.

As those dogs were recovered, 14 other dogs were also recovered on Tuesday from deplorable conditions at a Tacoma home.

Those dogs were left alone in the snow, ice, and freezing temperatures, according to the Humane Society.

The Humane Society said as new pets are brought in for care, it has more than 40 dogs that are ready for adoption and would like to make space as they are currently out of space.

To help the dogs find a home, the shelter is offering $50 off adoption fees for all dogs from Dec. 30 through Jan. 16.

Other ways to help the shelter include:

  • FosterFoster owners provide a loving home, and the shelter provides the rest, including food, medical care, and other supplies. Fostering makes space for incoming pets — the more foster owners there are, the more pets can be saved.
  • Donate — Can’t adopt or foster? The shelter needs donations to help provide ongoing medical care for these dogs and the hundreds of animals in its care.

The Humane Society said help is urgently needed to care for the dogs.
