Human remains found at Federal Way church

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — A group of Federal Way church members had a frightening discovery Saturday during what was supposed to be a routine clean-up of the church property -- instead they uncovered human remains.

One of the volunteers involved in the clean-up said his biggest concern is that those remains may belong to someone he's tried to save.

All of his life -- and for 30 years at Evergreen Bible Chapel in Federal Way -- Ed Styles has worked tirelessly and passionately to share his devotion to God.

"If I can’t tell people about Jesus then I might as well dig a hole and crawl in it," the 82-year-old said.

Styles said when he comes across people living in the forested area behind the church, he encourages them come out of the woods and into the light.

"It’s been my way -- my dad brought us up that way," he said. "He’d bring people to church from the neighborhood."

His greatest fear now is that volunteers discovered what was left of someone he once tried to help.

“I would like to know who he is because he’s got a family probably, maybe kids, maybe a wife, these are now unknown things you see.”

Police are investigating and Styles showed us where officers spent the afternoon scouring the overgrown area and placing orange markers where they found evidence; at least a dozen flags are marking the an area near the church.

The search is not done and Federal Way police, along with King County Search and Rescue, will continue their searches on Sunday.

Until that happens and Ed gets some answers all he can do—he says—is put his trust where he always has.

“Oh to Jesus yes, to Jesus.”
