Police say woman fatally shot by husband near Yelm

THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. — A 30-year-old woman is dead after being shot Wednesday night in Thurston County, deputies said.

The shooting happened shortly before 8 p.m. in the 21900 block of Beach Side Drive Southeast, which is in the Clearwood community. It is 10 miles south of Yelm.

Deputies said a man reported that a woman had been shot, and the shooting was initially reported as a possible accident.

Medics who arrived at the scene performed lifesaving measures on the woman but pronounced her dead.

Deputies said the preliminary investigation showed the shooting was not accidental. Deputies took the woman’s 32-year-old husband into custody on suspicion of domestic violence murder charges.

Officials said four small children, all under 10, were home at the time of the shooting. They were not hurt.

The children will be put into the care of Child Protective Services.
