Strong winds expected in parts of the North Sound

Parts of the North Sound are once again gearing up for potentially dangerous winds.

Windy conditions will develop Thursday morning and continue into the early evening, with the highest winds expected this afternoon.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for the north interior in areas such as Bellingham, Mount Vernon, Port Townsend, Anacortes and Oak Harbor until 7 p.m. as well as the north and central Washington coast until 10 p.m.

For the North Sound, southeast winds of 25 to 35 mph are forecast with gusts of 50 to 55 mph. The strongest winds are expected near the water.

It will also be breezy around the rest of the Puget Sound, with gusts of up to 35 mph in some spots.

The rain will be heavy at times.

The good news for people living in those areas: this storm is not expected to be as strong or damaging as the last one on Dec. 20.

In the mountain passes, rain will turn to snow this evening.
