Have unused masks from a project or wildfire season? Seattle Mask Brigade will pick them up

SEATTLE — Volunteers in Seattle are picking up unused masks and gloves to help medical staff and other front line workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

They may have been left over from a home improvement project or a summer when there was wildfire smoke. Or you may have been making cloth masks to help out and now you want to donate them.

The group is called the Seattle Mask Brigade. They pick up smaller donations of masks and other personal protection equipment that aren’t accepted by larger donation drives.

Volunteers pick up, sort and deliver masks to those in need, usually within 24 hours.

The pickups are contactless and are done within the greater Seattle area within King County only.

The group is accepting unused N95 masks, surgical masks, homemade masks (in bagged groups of 10 or more), or sealed packages of nitrile gloves. They will also accept unopened hand sanitizer.

Donations must be in good condition. Sealed items are preferred, but the group knows of organizations that will accept unused but open N95 masks.

Within three weeks, the Seattle Mask Brigade collected more than 11,000 masks from more than 450 donors.
