Washington state governor Jay Inslee will be temporarily handing over his duties to Secretary of State Kim Wyman next week, as he undergoes hip replacement surgery.
"On Monday, I am trading in a 1951 model hip joint for a 2019 model," Gov. Jay Inslee said.
Wyman will be acting governor starting at 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday, Inslee spokeswoman Tara Lee said.
Lee said the governor is expected to be out of the office for at least a week or more because of the surgery.
The timing of Inslee's surgery means there will not be a traditional budget rollout, Lee said. The governor's proposed supplemental budget and policy proposal are expected to be released the week of Dec. 16 by his budget director, David Schumacher.
Inslee is expected to return to his office in early January.
