Gig Harbor police officer injured in crash with suspected DUI driver

GIG HARBOR, Wash. — A Gig Harbor police officer was injured in a crash with an impaired driver early Sunday, officials said.

Officer Barber’s patrol car was hit around 2 a.m. by another car in the 9000 block of Bujacich Road.

The other car crossed the centerline of the road and the officer tried to avoid the crash by moving onto the shoulder, a Facebook post from the department said.

The officer was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and then released.

Washington State Patrol conducted the investigation. The driver, a 24-year-old Key Peninsula man, later tested at over twice the legal limit, officials said.

He was arrested at the scene and will be booked into the Pierce County Jail.
