SEATTLE - Officers with the Seattle Police Department arrested five people following a protest downtown on Friday.

“Three women and two men were arrested Friday afternoon for an assault on an officer, failure to disperse, obstructing and resisting arrest following a protest in the 1500 block of 4th Avenue,” Seattle police said in a blotter post

Officials said at one point about 100 people participated in the demonstration outside of Century Square.

During the demonstration officers asked the event organizers to move out of the street and on to Westlake Park as they had planned.

“As officers were escorting the group to the park, some of the demonstrators chose to stop in the intersection, blocking traffic. Officers issued a dispersal order over the public address system, but the group blocking the intersection refused to move. At one point there was a brief struggle between officers and several of the protesters, which resulted in the arrest of the five individuals,” police said.

One officer sustained an ankle injury during the struggle, police said.

The suspects were booked into the King County Jail.
