Everett Army veteran to parachute in game ball for Seahawks game Thursday night

Cascade High School graduate Andrew Honigbaum’s parachuting career has taken him all over the world. He’s served the country parachuting with the U.S. Army Golden Knights. He’s won team parachuting world championships. On Thursday night, he’ll parachute into CenturyLink Field to deliver the game ball for the Seahawks game versus the Green Bay Packers.

“He's my world-champion skydiver,” Paulette Honigbaum said of her son on Tuesday.

KIRO 7 morning anchor John Knicely met with Andrew’s mom and two sisters who say they are well past the days of getting nervous about his jumps. He’s even brought them up over the years.

“Went up in the plane with him one time,” Paulette said. “We've all done our share of skydiving with him.”

Andrew is now the coach for the Air Force Academy Wings of Blue, and he'll be parachuting in with those cadets during the national anthem Thursday. He got his start skydiving in Snohomish.

“Way back in 1995 I bought my brother his very first skydive down at Skydive Snohomish,” Shelley Honigbaum said. “For his 18th birthday and his graduation from Cascade High School present.”

Andrew got hooked and chased his dream of a parachuting career. He’s accomplished that dream and then some by parachuting with the Army Golden Knights and winning the Arizona Airspeed 8-Way World Championship in 2004, 2005, and 2006.

His family says Thursday will be extra special, a nationally televised jump into his hometown team's field.

“I know he's excited for it, because not only is he able to jump into Seahawks Stadium, CenturyLink, his home team,” Shelley said. “To be able to do it in front of everybody as part of the military just coming off of Veterans Day.”

The jump is weather-permitting. The Honigbaum ladies are hoping the rain holds off so they can see Andrew deliver the game ball in spectacular fashion.
