6 homes, other structures lost to wildfire in Lind

Update: During a wildfire briefing on Aug 5, officials said the Lind Fire was nearly contained. No personnel were injured.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday night that evacuation orders have been lifted for the town of Lind after a wildfire destroyed six homes and eight other structures.

The orders were lifted at about 8:30 p.m.

Residents were directed earlier to Ritzville Grade School in Ritzville where the Red Cross helped.

Highway 395 was closed in both directions between Paha-Packard Road and Cunningham Road but was reopened.

The sheriff’s office reported earlier that about 10 homes had been lost but that later changed to six and eight structures.

One firefighter had to be airlifted to Spokane to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste had authorized the mobilization of state firefighting resources in which two airplanes and a helicopter were deployed.
