Edmonds child rape suspect captured on boat off Florida coast

Edmonds child sex suspect arrested on boat in Florida

An Edmonds man suspected of child rape was arrested by U.S. deputy marshals as he tried to flee the country in a boat off the Florida coast Sunday.

The investigation started in Edmonds in January when the victims’ mother called Edmonds Police. She had been the former girlfriend of the 34-year-old suspect and the victims were her children, ages 11 and 13.

Edmonds police Detective Stacie Trykar developed probable cause to arrest the man for investigation of second-degree child rape and first-degree child molestation.

The Edmonds police street crimes unit worked to find the suspect and determined he had fled to Florida and planned to leave the U.S. on a boat.

Edmonds police then worked with Snohomish County’s violent offender task force and their law

enforcement partners in Florida to try to find the suspect.

U.S. deputy marshals in Florida found the man on his boat in the waters off the Florida coast and took him into custody.

He was taken to the Lee County Jail, where he was interviewed by a local detective and Det. Trykar from Edmonds, who took part remotely.

The man remains in jail in Florida awaiting an extradition hearing to Washington.

Trykar is continuing the investigation to find out if there may be other victims.
