Drunken driver had BAC three times over legal limit when he hit patrol car, police say

HOQUIAM, Wash. — A 26-year-old Vancouver, Washington, man was arrested early Tuesday in Hoquiam after police said he hit a parked vehicle and a patrol car.

According to police, an officer was speaking to a citizen when a Subaru hit a parked car, hit a patrol car and sped off.

The officer then followed the Subaru and said it crashed into a concrete divider in the roadway.

"The collision caused extensive damage to the Subaru, tearing the right front wheel assembly from the vehicle and deploying all of the airbags," a spokesperson for the Hoquiam Police Department wrote in a news release.

Both the driver and a passenger, a 26-year-old woman, reported they were not injured and did not need medical attention, according to police.

Police said the driver admitted to drinking alcohol and field testing indicated he was impaired.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run of an unattended vehicle, hit-and-run of an attended vehicle and driving under the influence.

He was then transported to the Hoquiam Police Department for further tests.

"It was determined the driver's breath alcohol content was over three times in excess of the .08 per-se alcohol limit," police said.

The driver was then booked into the Hoquiam City Jail.
