Driver throws sawed-off shotgun out window during Tacoma police chase

TACOMA, Wash. — A driver in a stolen box truck was arrested after leading Tacoma police on a chase overnight.

Tacoma police said early Wednesday that an officer spotted the stolen truck at South 84th Street and Alaska.

Instead of pulling over, the driver fled in the truck and threw a sawed-off shotgun out the window, officers said.

Pierce County deputies assisted Tacoma officers and used a pursuit intervention technique -- or PIT maneuver -- to stop the truck at East 72nd Street and Portland Avenue.

The driver was arrested, and the shotgun was recovered. No one was hurt.

The driver, a 49-year-old man, was booked into jail for investigation of possession of stolen property, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of an unlawful firearm - sawed-off shotgun, and felony elude.
