Man in custody after chase in stolen vehicle with boat in tow, police say

TACOMA, Wash. — A 36-year-old man suspected of driving a stolen vehicle was arrested Thursday night after leading officers on a chase from Ruston until he crashed at 74th Street and Tacoma Mall Boulevard, police said.

Police said it started at the Point Defiance boat launch with a call from the guy who was in the vehicle and had a boat in tow.

When a Ruston officer tried to contact the man he took off.

Tacoma police said they received calls from witnesses who said a Range Rover was pulling a boat and narrowly missed people and other vehicles.

The driver at some point hit two vehicles, ended up crashing into another vehicle and landed into a ditch, police said.

A driver in another vehicle suffered injuries due to the crash, police said.

Police said the man tried to escape but was taken into custody for investigation of first-degree assault, driving under the influence, felony eluding, and some other charges.
