Driver crashes into pole after power steering fails

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — A driver was cited after their car’s power steering failed and the vehicle crashed into a light pole, knocking it down Friday afternoon in Pierce County.

The crash happened at Steele Street and Highway 512.

Deputies said a Washington Department of Fish And Wildlife officer saw the crash. It appeared the car was going to try to leave the scene, so the WDFW officer blocked it in.

The pole fell across the road, blocking traffic, but was moved to the shoulder, allowing lanes to be reopened.

Deputies said the driver got a ticket for having defective equipment and no insurance.
