KENT, Wash. — A fire started in an abandoned home at South 272nd Street and 26th Avenue South in Kent Monday night.
The fire was called in by a passerby at 10:26 p.m.
When Puget Sound Fire crews arrived, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the front of the house.
A second fire engine from South King Fire & Rescue arrived to help fight the flames from the outside.
Once the fire was knocked down, crews were able to enter the home and fully extinguish the flames.
When firefighters opened the door to the daylight basement, a dog ran out unharmed. It is being cared for by King County Animal Control until its owner is found.
Crews searched the home thoroughly, but no one was inside.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
