Skiers and snowboarders rejoice: Crystal Mountain is set to patrially open Friday.
Workers at the ski area shared the good news with KIRO 7’s Shelby Miller Tuesday.
Workers said they plan to open their Discovery Lift and the Discovery Meadow area.
“The snowmaking is what’s allowing us to open Friday, without it we wouldn’t have enough snow right now to open and have good coverage, so it’s really been a gamechanger for us,” said Crystal Mountain Marketing Director Tiana Anderson. “We’re really happy we’re able to supplement when Mother Nature isn’t doing her part, so it’s great for us, it’s great for the business.”
More snow is still needed to open up additional terrain.
Down the mountain, excitement is mounting.
“Snow is falling, people are getting stoked. It’s getting exciting. This is our favorite time of year,” said Vanessa Yates, Enumclaw Ski and Mountain Company shop manager. “It’s really exciting to see people coming through the door getting ready for their next season of playtime.”
Enumclaw Ski and Mountain Company workers are tuning up skis and getting winter sport lovers, like Sue Speckhardt, ready for a brand new season.
“I need my exercise again, so I am really excited to get back on the mountains and maybe I can relive some of my glory days,” said Speckhardt.
Crystal Mountain anticipates big crowds on opening day and plans to have music, prizes, and giveaways.
Crystal Mountain is located about 65 miles southeast of Seattle.
At full service, the 2,600-acre ski area has 10 lifts and offers 85 trails to skiers and boarders.
