Craigslist vehicle sale takes bizarre turn of events with carjacking, kidnapping

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — A Craigslist meetup involving a potential vehicle sale ended in a bizarre turn of events Friday night in Federal Way.

Police said they were called at about 3:30 p.m. to a report of a carjacking and kidnapping in the 1900 block of South 320th Street.

A man reported that he had arranged to with a prospective buyer for a vehicle he had listed for sale on Craigslist, authorities said.

Police said when the seller and his girlfriend arrived at the meetup location, a man and a woman in their 30s approached them and implied they were armed. The man’s vehicle was stolen with his girlfriend still inside.

Authorities said the suspects drove away in the stolen vehicle and released the man’s girlfriend near Pacific Highway South and South 330th Street.

Police chased the vehicle after finding it on westbound South 356th Street at 1st Avenue South. Officials said the suspect ended up crashing into another car near 21st Avenue South and Southwest Campus Drive. The female suspect was arrested near the car crash while the man fled on foot but was eventually caught.

Both were taken to St. Francis Hospital for medical treatment and will be booked into the King County Jail on multiple felony crimes, authorities said.

The other driver involved in the crash was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
