In light of the growing coronavirus pandemic, King, Snohomish and Pierce counties have both extended the deadline for individual property taxpayers to June 1.

The extension applies only to individual residential and commercial taxpayers to who pay property taxes themselves, rather than through a mortgage lender. Banks that pay property taxes on behalf of customers still have to meet the April 30 deadline.

"Many homeowners are facing extraordinary financial challenges during this public health emergency," said King County Executive Dow Constantine.

For those who can do so, both King and Pierce counties are encouraging people to meet the earlier deadline if possible. However, neither is adding interest charges if the tax bill is paid later.
