KENT, Wash. — All that was left of Alex Lima's Kent home and everything he owned was finally cleared and hauled off one week after he survived a raging fire.
“God give one more chance for my life,” said Lima.
KIRO 7 first brought you Lima's story earlier in the week.
Lima escaped by running through the flames, saved by his neighbor who punched a window to wake him up.
The only thing that made it out partially intact was the charred bible he says he had in bed with him after reading himself to sleep.
The leadership at Pacific Christian Church were so moved by Lima's story, they volunteered and worked side by side with Lima to clear the debris.
“He kept repeating the same thing again. How God gave him a second chance,” said Walter Hyneman from Pacific Christian Center.
But it wasn't enough. Heavy machinery was needed. So the church contacted a couple of businesses, including G3 Junk Removal.
“Hopefully get him back on his feet and this is one less stress he has to deal with,” said Scotty Goddard, owner of G3 Junk Removal.
Lima, who has been sleeping in a tent by the charred remains, has been stressed.
“No sleep. Thinking about it because the owner wants this clean,” Lima explained.
But now with the help of the community, and his faith, Lima can move forward.
“Start over again. Begin, begin,” Lima said.
