City of Auburn offering assistance to federal employees impacted by shutdown

AUBURN, Wash. — The city of Auburn is suspending late fees and service interruptions for residents furloughed during the ongoing federal government shutdown.

“For the duration of the closure, residents of the city who are federal government workers will have late fees waived on city services including water, storm, sewer and garbage. Service interruptions for non-payment will also be suspended during this time,” a city spokesperson said in a news release.

In addition to the city of Auburn's assistance, more businesses and organizations in the region are stepping up to offer some relief to federal workers going without pay.

Crystal Mountain is offering free lift tickets, Seattle Humane is offering resources from its Pet Food Bank and banks, including Seattle-based Washington Federal, are stepping up with relief for furloughed workers.

Those interested in seeking assistance are asked to contact the city’s utilities division at (253) 931-3038, utilities@auburnwa.gov, or in person at the customer service desk.

Proof of federal employment is required, city officials said.
