CEO of NHL Seattle supports US Challenge Cup tournament to grow hockey

WHL U.S. Challenge Cup

SEATTLE — Tod Leiweke, CEO of NHL Seattle, was in Kent Thursday evening to support the WHL U.S. Challenge Cup tournament this weekend.

Twelve teams with 13 and 14-year-olds from across the Western U.S. and Canada will play games between the ShoWare Center and Kent Valley Ice Centre.

It’s part of a grassroots effort by the new NHL franchise to grow hockey, scout young players and find new fans in the region.

“Really, this is what it’s all about. At this level, these young people dreaming about what’s next in their career, and I’m going to encourage them tonight to dream big,” Leiweke said.
