House and shop destroyed in 2-alarm fire

Olympia, Wash. — Just after 10 p.m. Thursday, Olympia firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at a residence in the 1100 block of Fairview Street Southeast.

They arrived to large flames pouring out of a personal workshop on the property. The fire also spread to the home.

Two people who lived inside the home out safely with their dog.

In addition to the burning structures, there were also multiple large tanks of propane and other fuel that caught fire. Each tank holds around 1,000 gallons.

Because of the potential for an explosion, firefighters had to stay back and fight the fire defensively.

The workshop and the house were destroyed. As of 2:30 a.m. Friday, the fuel takes were still burning off fuel. Firefighters are pouring water on the tanks to keep them cool and reduce the chance of an explosion.

One firefighter suffered a minor eye injury in the fire. He was treated on the scene.
