Investigators work to identify woman killed on Camano Island

Investigators work to identify a woman who was killed on Camano Island.

KIRO 7's Alison Grande spoke to Island County Sheriff Mark Brown who called the crime "horrific". Sheriff Brown said his detectives are working tirelessly to solve the crime, and would not comment on the relationship between the victim and a person of interest.

Neighbors told KIRO 7 the homicide has them feeling vulnerable.

The body was discovered near a hillside bunker -- with a cache of firearms and ammunition --  on Camano Island.

Someone found the body on Saturday and called 911. Deputies believe that she had been dead for several days. Investigators believe she is a homicide victim and that she was specifically targeted.

Detectives served several search warrants on the property, which is near Tamarack Lane, on south Camano Island. Crime scene investigators from the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab helped collect evidence. They recovered the woman's body and seized supplies, firearms and ammunition.

Investigators are not releasing any information about the person of interest at this time.

KIRO 7 will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
