Basketball player to cross U.S. raising money, awareness for developmental disability community

SEATTLE — Brennan Besser, a Duke University men’s basketball player, plans to cross the U.S. this summer, biking and jogging, from Seattle to New York, to raise awareness and donations for the intellectual and developmental community.

Besser plans to travel more than 3,400 miles over about 70 days.

The crossing is an effort to raise $1,000,000 for Walk On America, supporting charities helping people with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Besser's inspiration is his older sister, who has special needs and is developmentally delayed.

In a video shared by the Duke men's basketball program, Besser said he'll be connecting with community members in each town he stops in, hosting a basketball clinic, a community event, or a walk or run.

Besser started the trek in Seattle last week. See a Day One recap here.

Very proud of our guy Brennan Besser! He’s traveling the country by bike to raise awareness and support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Walk On America! Please share and visit www.walkonamerica.org!!
