Authorities recover stolen US Postal Service mailboxes

KING COUNTY, Wash. — Two stolen big blue U.S. Postal Service mailboxes were recovered after local authorities received a tip that a moving truck might have been involved in a theft.

King County deputies said they found a moving truck on May 16 that matched a description that was given to them. They followed the vehicle to the 500 block of South Sullivan Street in Seattle’s South Park area and contacted the driver.

Deputies discovered the truck was stolen and then arrested the driver.

A Postal Service inspector who also responded to the scene searched the back of the truck and found the blue mailboxes, which contained mail, deputies said. A stolen bike was also found in the truck.

Authorities determined the mailboxes were stolen from the Renton area and the bike, from Normandy Park.

Officials said additional charges are pending.
