Attempted purse robberies are cause for alert in Kent

KENT, Wash. — The Kent Police Department is warning the public about several attempted purse thefts.

Police said a driver pulls up behind a shopper who has returned to their car, blocks them in and then jumps out to try to steal their purse.

In one instance, police said a woman had just returned from shopping and was on her cellphone when she was blocked.

Police say when you get in your car, you should do this:
•    lock doors
•    put purse on floor
•    be aware of your surroundings

If that doesn’t happen:

•    honk horn/make noise to draw attention
•    call 911 immediately
•    if they get your purse, don't fight
•    cancel all cards immediately
