Arson, felony harassment suspect arrested after setting mattress on fire at downtown Seattle hotel

SEATTLE — Seattle police arrested a man on suspicion of arson and felony harassment after he allegedly set a mattress on fire at a downtown Seattle hotel on Tuesday evening.

According to the Seattle Police Department, officers arrived at the hotel around 8 p.m. and spoke to an employee who checked the suspect in. The employee told police he didn’t know why the man started the fire, but that Seattle Fire Department crews had extinguished it.

About $10,000 worth of damage was done to the property, but no injuries were reported.

After getting a description of the man, police recognized him from previous incidents with a woman whose apartment he’d allegedly threatened to burn down. Officers spoke with that 28-year-old woman and learned she had called earlier about the man being outside her apartment building.

Officers searched for the man and found him outside the apartment building. The 26-year-old was arrested for investigation of arson and felony harassment and was later booked into the King County Jail.
