Arrest made in death of retiree found shot in car at Lynnwood park

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Lynnwood police have made an arrest in the death of a man who was found shot in his car at a Lynnwood park last month.

Carl Bridgmon was a 70-year-old innocent bystander who was caught in the middle of an argument between two teenagers and two other unidentified people.

Police said the two teenagers were identified and contacted, but officers were looking for the two other people who fled the park in a black sedan after the shooting.

On Tuesday, Lynnwood police arrested a 21-year-old from Marysville in connection with the shooting. The suspect was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on several charges, including murder.

According to court documents, two teens met a man at Daleway Park to buy $35 worth of marijuana. They eventually got into an argument, then a fight and gunshots were fired.

Police said Bridgmon was in his car at the park off 64th Avenue West at 2:13 p.m. on April 5 when he was hit by at least one of those gunshots. Officials said that at one point, Bridgmon actually started filming the fight. That video not only captured the shooting, but also Bridgmon’s own death.

Police said his car was riddled with bullets and several windows were blown out.

Bridgmon’s family told police the retiree visited the park frequently.

Police request that anyone who may have information about the shooting contact Detective Arnett at 425- 670-5669. Anonymous tips can be left at Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound at 1-800-222-8477.
