Aberdeen home damaged in 2-alarm fire

ABERDEEN, Wash. — Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at an Aberdeen home overnight.

Crews were called to the home in the 100 block of West 4th St. at 2:20 a.m. Thursday and found heavy fire and smoke from the side door of a two-story wood home.

The fire caused major heat damage to the first-floor laundry room and second-floor apartment located at the back of the main living area.

There was smoke damage throughout the rest of the building.

Fire crews were able to prevent the flames from moving further into the first and seconds floors of the main building and surrounding homes.

Fire officials said there were 10 people who escaped the fire – four were in the second-story apartment at the rear of the house and six were in the main living area.

Crews from Aberdeen, Hoquiam and Grays Harbor District 2 were at the scene for about 4 hours.

Damage to the building and its contents was estimated to be $221,242.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
