6 King County beaches closed for bacteria

KING COUNTY, Wash. — Six King County beaches on Lake Washington are currently closed for high bacteria levels in the water.

The current beach closures are: Enatai Beach, Gene Coulon, Madrona Beach, Matthews Beach, Mount Baker Beach and Newcastle Beach.

King County measures bacteria concentrations weekly, collecting three water samples from different parts of the beach and averaging the results.

Samples are tested twice a week until bacteria levels are low enough that it is safe to reopen, according to the county.
