5-year-old hit while walking on US 2

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. — A 5-year-old boy was hit while walking on US 2 west of Lake Stevens Thursday.

Troopers said it happened shortly before 10 p.m.

They believe the boy walked onto the trestle from 20th Street Southeast.

The driver who hit the boy pulled over and called 911.

Troopers said the boy was conscious and alert when he was taken to the hospital with injuries that include at least a fractured leg.

The State Patrol located the boy’s parents Thursday night, but at that time, troopers did not yet know the circumstances of how and why the boy was out wandering around alone.

Lake Stevens police are handling that part of the investigation.
