5-year-old dragged by car about 40 feet after driver suffered from medical event

UPDATE: The 5-year-old was released from Harborview Medical Center on Friday. Monroe Police Officers escorted the boy and his mother home.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Three pedestrians, including a 5-year-old boy, were injured after being hit by a vehicle Monday night in Monroe after the driver suffered from a medical event. The accident occurred in the 15200 block of Woods Creek Road.

Officers responded to reports of a collision at about 8:38 p.m. and found that three victims had been hit while crossing the street in a crosswalk.

A Toyota Camry was headed northbound on Woods Creek Road from State Route 2 when a family of eight was crossing the street.

A 5-year-old boy was struck and thrown by the car, run over again by the vehicle and then dragged about 40 feet. He was transported to Providence Medical Center and then to Harborview Medical Center with a leg fracture and multiple other injuries.

A 10-year-old girl and a 35-year-old man were also hit and treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Officers said that the driver, a 20-year-old man from Granite Falls, suffered a medical event while driving. He was brought to Evergreen Health in Monroe.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
