Gun, ammunition stolen from firefighter's home

A firefighter says his White Center home was broken into on Wednesday and several items, including a gun, were stolen.

Colt Passey returned home from work to find the house he was living in had been ransacked and the back door was wide open.

"Your most intimate spot has been invaded by someone and you get to go pick up the pieces of someone going through your things and looking through your pictures and seeing them thrown on the floor, and all your personal stuff strewn about," Passey said.

Passey's rommate, Paul Tarabochia, is the homeowner and he's also a firefighter. He was at work when thieves took time to steal everything from video games to Tarabochia's handgun, which was secured in a safe.

"They were in there long enough to find the key which was hidden to get into the safe," said Tarabochia.

Other items stolen were electronics, watches, jewelry, ammunition and some cash.

Tarabochia said his neighbors have reported a lot of thefts, burglaries and car prowls lately.

KIRO 7 checked and nine were reported in his White Center neighborhood in three weeks.

The two installed new surveillance cameras on Thursday, and they're tightening their security.

"People need to take proper steps to protect themselves and their property," said Tarabochia.
