Home destroyed in massive fire near Kent

NEAR KENT, Wash. — Neighbors tell KIRO 7 they heard multiple explosions around 4 a.m. this morning ahead of a huge fire that engulfed a home just east of Kent.

The home is located near the intersection of 124th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 209th Street, very close to Kentridge High School.

Firefighters say when they arrived on the scene there were flames pouring from every side of the house.

They quickly made the decision to go defensive on the fire. That means that instead of worrying about saving the structure, they focused their attention on the surrounding area.

The fire was so large that there was a concern for neighboring homes.

Authorities say that they are talking to a person of interest in their investigation. They are not calling this person a suspect, but say that he may have information about the fire.

Neighbors told KIRO 7 that the home had been empty for some time. There were no injuries.
