Popular Eastside park and ride closing for 6 years

Big changes are starting Monday morning for Eastside transit commuters.

The park and ride area at the Overlake Transit Center in Redmond is shutting down Monday and will stay that way for six years.

It’s one of 2 Eastside park and rides that are closing.

The South Bellevue Park and Ride will shut down on May 30 and will remain closed for five years.

A sign has been posted to let riders know about the changes and potential headaches of having to find a new routine to get to work.

The closures are due to construction for new link light rail line that will stretch from Redmond to Seattle.

The construction will eliminate 222 parking spaces at Overlake and will last until 2023, but will eventually feature a 300-spot parking garage and a pedestrian bridge over SR 520.

While the parking lots are closed, riders can continue to use the transit center to change buses.
