Police: Woman assaulted by man who allegedly posed as a ride-share driver

Kirkland police are investigating after a woman had been assaulted by a man who they say allegedly posed as a ride-share driver.

After 11:30 p.m. on March 16, officers responded to a report that a woman had been assaulted.

The victim told police she had been in downtown Kirkland when she requested an Uber to pick her up.

Investigators said the woman reported that a vehicle pulled up and she got into the vehicle without checking to see if it was the Uber driver she had requested.

In a news release, Kirkland police said the driver did not drive her to her destination but pulled into a parking lot and allegedly assaulted her.

The victim climbed to the front seat, got out of the vehicle, fled and called police.

Investigators said the Uber request the woman had requested, canceled on her and was not the vehicle she got into.

Police are cautioning people using ride-share services to verify the information of the vehicle and driver before getting into one.

Anyone who suspects suspicious vehicles or drivers should call police to report it.
